Borders designed to look good in every season

Good planting looks like it happened on its own. It doesn’t: it’s a plan of what flowers when, what holds its shape in winter, and what will still be in the right place in five years.

Ines draws every planting plan for your soil, your light and how much time you want to spend on it. We buy from growers we’ve used for years, prepare the soil properly and plant in drifts rather than dots, so the border reads from the house as well as up close.

Grasses and perennials knit together in a season. Trees and hedges take a little longer, so we plant them first.

How it goes

  1. Look

Soil, light, wind and what already grows well nearby.

  2. Plan

A plan with every plant named, for colour and structure through the year.

  3. Prepare

Weeds out, compost in, the soil loosened where it's compacted.

  4. Plant

Planted in drifts, watered in and mulched, with a note on what to water and when.

Questions

When can you plant?

Most plants go in from September to May. Bare-root hedges and trees from November to March. Summer planting is possible with careful watering.

How long until it looks full?

Grasses and perennials knit together in one season; shrubs and hedges in two or three. We plant closer where you need it full sooner.
